Planting
The most ideal of planting times is during the fall season, as soil temperatures are still warm, and the rains begin to return, helping plants get established. A wider selection of plants return to the nursery as summer fades! This month we welcome the arrival of colorful mums, fall blooming asters, along with new orders of perennials, shrubs, trees, and of course blueberries! Fall and overwintering vegetable starts and culinary herbs are still abundantly available with weekly deliveries. Early this month look for our fall planted, spring blooming bulbs to arrive including tulips, daffodils, snowdrops, and many others to choose from. Paperwhite bulbs will also begin to arrive this month. Take a peek at a list of things you can plant in the month of September by seed or transplant! What to Plant in September.

Seed Garlic
It’s just about garlic time! We will have a great selection of Oregon grown seed garlic beginning to arrive around mid September with plenty of hardneck and softneck varieties to choose from! We will also carry elephant garlic, as well as red and yellow shallots, and yellow rock onion sets. Stay tuned for their arrival! Don’t miss our wildly popular Annual Garlic Fest! Save the date, Saturday, September 21.

Fertilizing
You can help feed your soil with the application of mineral and slow release fertilizers in the fall months. This will increase the development of microorganisms which generate available nutrients that plants need for the next growing season.
Natural and organic fertilizer is ideal for enhancing soil fertility and stimulating plant growth in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way that supports plants over a longer time frame than synthetic fertilizer.
