When the local produce begins to ripen, it’s a great time to start putting up the harvest to last through the colder seasons. Extend the abundance of summer by canning, freezing, and dehydrating. Freezing is one of the easier methods of food preservation if you have the space. Click here for information on freezing fruits and vegetables from the OSU Extension Service. Also, don’t forget to check out some handy info we’ve put together, Canning 101, if you are new to canning or need a review of the basics! We have a selection of food preserving supplies to help you put up the harvest this year, and a small mountain of quart and pint canning jars.

Summer entertaining is happening! It’s officially BBQ and gathering season. What better way to entertain and refresh your guests than with this homemade citrus shrub recipe! This recipe makes a delicious sweet drinking vinegar. Simply add sparkling water and ice for a refreshing shrub! Or add to your favorite vinaigrette for a sweet/tart burst of flavor.

Speaking of BBQ’s, this Zesty Beer Mustard is a crowd pleaser with its thick texture, bold, complex flavor, and is delightfully easy to put together. Add your favorite dark beer, and let the flavors develop for a week. Then, dollop accordingly!
